Prior to his rise to Chairman, he was a member of the Georgia State Senate. He represented District 29 from 2011 to 2019. During that time, McKoon advocated for the cause of religious freedom. He sponsored the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), designed to protect the rights of individuals and businesses to exercise their religious beliefs without undue interference from government. Despite RFRA's defeat by Governor Nathan Deal's veto, however McKoon's efforts in advocating for religious freedom have earned him recognition among conservative circles.
As the newly elected Chairman, his priorities are to mobilize a broad coalition of Republicans who can collaborate towards shared objectives, emphasizing the importance of grassroots engagement and strengthening the party's presence at the local level. Chairman McKoon also advocates for election integrity. Chairman Josh McKoon is determined to lead efforts to win this 2024 Presidential Election Cycle, as GA is a key battleground State to the White House.
